How to trim a window with PVC Trim

When fitting PVC Cladding to your bathroom or any room you will have to incorporate a window into the design. How do you manage a window reveal with bathroom wall panels?  There are trims available that dress the window incredibly well leaving a neat waterproof finish.

We will look at the most common methods bathroom fitters use and how they can be applied at the DIY level.

PVC Trim for a window | What are the options?

When fitting Tiles you would dress an external corner on the window with a dedicated external corner trim. You do the same with PVC Cladding.

There are two trims that you would typically use for this – an external corner trim which you fit when fitting the panels or an external corner L shape trim that you fit after you fit the panels.

What is the easier trim to fit?

The L shape external corner trim is the easier of the two as you fit it after the panels are in place and that offers a degree of flexibility.

Fitting PVC Cladding for a window

Fitting PVC Cladding for a bathroom window is straightforward, however you do need to make a decision on trim choice before you start.

Using an External Corner Trim

The main difference here is you fit the external corner trim to the window reveal outer edge first and fit the panels to the trim, you can fit the trim to the last panel and then fit both the trim and panel as one – then fix the trim to the outer edge but the takeaway here is the panel is fitted to the trim.

Using an L Shape External Corner Trim

This is the easier option as you fit the trim after you have fitted the panels. You fit the panels flush to the outer edge then fit the L shape over the top.

White Window Reveals

When fitting bathroom wall panels around the window a popular method is to use a white gloss window reveal. This has the advantage of channeling more light into the bathroom and making it a lighter space.

You can use any of the white bathroom wall panels, white gloss is popular because it is easier to clean than matt white and will more closely match the white uPVC window frame.

Using white PVC wall panel window reveals doesnt impact what kind of trim you choose. You can still select from either PVC or Aluminium. The only factor to bear in mind is if you are using an external corner trim You will need to use the same depth panel for your white window reveal as you have on the walls. If you are using a L Shape trim that doesnt matter.
